Loose lithium batteries
Spare lithium batteries can catch fire in the cargo hold, so airline dangerous-goods rules do not allow them loose in parcels. Batteries fitted inside a device, switched off and protected, are usually fine; tell us on the declaration.

A power bank is a large loose lithium battery and cannot travel in the cargo hold. Buy one in Uzbekistan or have the recipient bring it in hand luggage.

E-scooters, hoverboards and e-bike batteries
Their batteries are far above the size airlines accept in cargo. Send the item without its battery only if it can be removed, or buy locally.

E-cigarettes and vapes
Vapes combine a lithium battery with nicotine liquid, and heated-tobacco sticks are tobacco, which is banned in parcels to Uzbekistan. Leave vapes, pods and e-liquids out of the parcel.

Aerosols and sprays
Pressurised cans such as spray deodorant, hairspray, shaving foam and dry shampoo can burst or leak in the hold. Choose roll-on, stick or cream versions instead.

Nail polish and nail polish remover
Nail polish and acetone are flammable liquids under air-safety rules. Gel polish that needs a UV lamp is usually treated the same way; ask us before packing.

Lighters and lighter fuel
Gas and petrol lighters, refills and lighter fluid are forbidden in air cargo. Empty, brand-new lighters are still not accepted.

Matches, including safety matches, are flammable solids and cannot go in air cargo. Buy them locally.

Paint, varnish and solvents
Oil paints, spray paint, varnish, white spirit and thinners are flammable. Water-based children's paints and acrylics in small tubes are usually fine.

Gas cylinders and cartridges
Camping gas, butane, propane, CO2 cartridges and soda-maker cylinders are compressed gases and are forbidden in air cargo, even when empty.

Fuel and other flammable liquids
Petrol, kerosene, lamp oil, pure alcohol and large bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitiser are flammable liquids and cannot fly as cargo.

Mercury thermometers and barometers
Mercury damages aircraft aluminium and is toxic. Send a digital thermometer instead.

Corrosives, bleach and car batteries
Acids, bleach, drain cleaner, oven cleaner and wet car batteries can leak and eat through packaging. Buy household chemicals in Uzbekistan.
